What is hallux valgus?

Hallux valgus or valgism is a pathology inherent in the big toe that mainly affects 40% of women and arises especially at the age of 40 to 60 years. Certainly not exempt are persons of lower age or of male sex, albeit in a small percentage.

Symptoms and imperfections

This pathology, in addition to providing pain and creating problems with walking, is characterized by a transformation of an aesthetic nature of the foot . In fact, the hallux valgus causes a lateral deviation at the expense of the metatarsal-phalanx joint (the appearance is so called “onion”) usually associated with a constant inflammation (bursitis) of the mucous bag located just at the base of the big toe.

Diagnostics

As you can well imagine, the hallux valgus is easily diagnosable through simple observation, but more specific clinical assessments go through more in-depth examinations, such as baropodometric or radiographic aimed at determining the degree of deformity.

Treatments, cures and remedies

Usually treatments intended for the care of the hallux valgus can be of two types: conservative or surgical. The treatment of conservative type is mainly based on the use of comfortable shoes that tend to reduce the stress of the fingers, the insoles that decrease the overload of the front of the foot help to limit the symptomatology of pain, the pads separates fingers for a better distribution of body weight over the entire foot. In addition, the use of anti-inflammatory and/or cortisone is usually used as a conservative therapy.

The surgical type treatment in most cases resorted to an intervention called osteotomy, or an operation with local anesthesia that involves through cuts, the removal of a part of the bone to restore the correct position of the big toe. The advantage of undergoing this surgical technique is definitely functional recovery in a rather short time.

Osteoplus® therapy

In addition, to speed up the calcification process of the hallux valgus after surgery, a biostimulating therapy of Osteoplus ® would be useful, which with a focused treatment acts on cell proliferation by halving the recovery time on the pathology. Book now
